The well known studio was established following the success of Hayao Miyazaki’s 1984 film ‘Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind’. Indeed, recognizing the potential for further creative attempts, Miyazaki, Takahata and Suzuki founded the studio to continue producing high-quality animated films.
Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, they released several films that became iconic including ‘My Neighbor Totoro’ (1988) and ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service’ (1989), which helped solidify its reputation. In addition, the 2001 release of ‘Spirited Away’ marked a significant improvement, earning the studio an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
